Growing Business With Marketing Persona Based SEO Actions

Inbound links are a powerful SEO strategyLast week we introduced the idea of a marketing persona so that you're company could better direct its SEO actions to generate a more targeted stream of traffic to your website. Remember that the more targeted your websites traffic is the more likely that it will convert into a lead on your site and with proper nurturing become a new client thus growing your business. In our post today we'll build on this idea offering you some specific ways to enhance your SEO actions.

There are three main areas of SEO activity, on page SEO which is comprised of actions to increase the visibility of your content to the search engines, the actual content development where more relevant content based on the needs of your target audience is critical, and off page SEO which are the actions you can take that improve your companies visibility and credibility both in the eyes of the search engines and those of your target audience. The main strategy in off page SEO is to create inbound links, that is, links from other websites to your company website. As we are looking at SEO from a marketing persona perspective, this post is about some of the off page actions you can do to grow targeted website traffic in ways that doesn't directly involve your website. There are various opinions as to the specific weighting of the importance of on and off page SEO actions, but there is broad based agreement that off page SEO, while more difficult to accomplish, has greater importance in the overall search engine equation because, when it is well executed, it indicates that your website and the information it contains has significant relevance to your target audience...no wonder it's more difficult to achieve!

If you followed our process for establishing or renewing your marketing persona, what are some of the ways to use this information to generate website traffic? Remember, your content and actions should speak to the problems that your market persona is trying to solve so where does your market persona spend time online and what are they trying to solve? Here are some specific actions that can be used to create inbound links to improve your search engine rankings:

8 Actions to Create Inbound Links for Improved SEO Results

  1. Look for industry or company blogs relevant to your company offering and make value added comments- It's normal that these comments would have a link back to your website.
  2. Use anchor text links when possible- Many blogs allow you to include links to other material you feel will be of relevance to the discussion and if you use simple html code you can embed these links as an anchor text link back to your websites information that's pertinent to the discussion.
  3. Investigate social media platforms for comment opportunities- The search features of social media platforms now allow you to find info relevant to your business offering and there may be opportunities to post links (again anchor text if possible) on relevant social media platforms. Make sure your whole team is aware of your objectives and encourage them to tweet or message on their personal social media pages about your company with links into the company website.
  4. Inbound links from articles- Writing articles and posting them to online publications like Ezine Articles and other publishing sites provides inbound link opportunities which again are best created as anchor text links.
  5. Invitation to share- As you create material and information for your company website, encourage visitors to share the information with friends they think might be interested in the material.
  6. Search out industry related forums- Often your target audience or key influencers to your target may be spending time in industry relevant forums, and again the opportunity to create links back into your website, either generally or with anchor text links can useful.
  7. Post information in directories- Many online directories exist that allow you to post link information back to your website, the more industry specific the directory the better.
  8. Free online advertising vehicles- Don't underestimate the value of website like Craigslist, Kijiji and Usedeverywhere. Creating a well optimized ad on these sites can often create an inbound link of value and can also result in new business from the post itself.

So, 8 examples of ways to create inbound links to target your persona and we didn't even try that hard. What are some other ways you've found that work for you?

Another great way to gain instant natural rankings, traffic and links to your website is through news releases. Most all print publications now have online editions and will upload newsworthy content to their website. Make sure to optimize the content for search engines and keep the press release newsworthy!

There are no shortcuts to finding good quality incoming links to your website! Take your time and focus your attention on building naturally acquired organic links because they show that actual people are interest in what you have to say!

Hi Charisse-

You're so right, we forgot that one! In fact a while back we did a post specifically on press releases, for those that haven't seen it it can be found at http://inboundmarketingexperts.ca/blog-0/?Tag=press+releases

Hi Bruno,

I'm not sure I undersatnd the context of your comment, can you be more clear? We weren't discussing social media here so I don't understand how your comment fits in. Thanks for clarifying.

I agree with you Michael, but what this posting was about is using a buyer persona to improve business growth from your web based actions, I don't think there's a contradiction do you?
